From the Icelandic notsylvia.wordpress.com website comes a sound assessment that for all the Western liberal wishful thinking Mousavi represents at best a mere one third of Iranian voters-One Third of the Iranian People.

The writing also manages to empathize impressively with the narrow pro-Western ultra-rich class base of Mousavi reformists.

However the perception that Ahmadinejad's vote was inflated is difficult to shake off.

It seems plausible to suggest that the extent of voter fraud as well as support for the incumbent have both been overplayed by those intent on destabilizing Iran.

I hope Mousavi and his supporters know that the US and the Europeans is taking advantage of what they are doing to hurt Iran.

"NEW YORK (AFP) – The US government took the unusual step of asking Twitter to delay a planned maintenance outage because of its use as a communications tool by Iranians following their disputed election, according to a senior official."

Greenwald gingerly edges up against radicalism here, but as ever, he can't quite enunciate the radical criticism of Amer. foreign policy (raising the question of why so many strong critics of Am. foreign policy are enamored of him--a separate question).

Look through this piece. The question is one of cost. In this case, the cost to the Iranians of our bombing them. That cost, and that cost alone, makes bombing them an inadvisable action within this critical mind-set.

Well, sorry Glenn, but fuck that. I'm with Chomsky: "A second cause is the feeling that the cost to its victims is too great. At first glance this reaction seems to be at a higher moral level than the first, but this is questionable. The principle that we should retract our claws when the victim bleeds too much is hardly an elevated one. What about opposition to war on the grounds..." of principle, or illegality (Greenwald the barrister surely is familiar with the Nuremberg precedent).

This might seem petty or righteous. It isn't. The refusal to articulate this criticism is precisely why Greenwald enjoys his pulpit at Salon. He abjures a principled, and hence radical, criticism of Amer. foreign policy. That matters, because when you're the military hegemon, it is you who determines when the cost is too high, a standard you'd never accept in the case of intervention in your country.

The "bomb Iran" crowd is, if anything, proven right by the current situation on their view of the current Iranian regime: It is evil. That is why it should be bombed. Nothing has changed. We support the masses currently protesting the government because our ultimate goal from a "bomb Iran" policy has not changed; we want regime change in Iran. If this can be accomplished by a mass revolt by their own people, then that would be a great outcome. If they cannot shed their evil regime themselves, then Iran remains an International danger and should be dealt with by U.S.
