Before anything, let me clarify that I strongly condemned the coup on Honduras. No procedure of impeachment was followed and the president did not resign. It was the army, as always in Latin America, imposing ‘their order’ by means of the state violence. I also call for the unconditional re-instalment of President Zelaya. Now, saying that I am under no illusion. That is way I think that this is a badly research article. Mel Zelaya is one of the biggest landowners in Honduras and for years was at the right side of the Liberal Party. He was never a 'centrist' and is frankly stupid to say that he was ever a reformist. He increased -almost double- the policy force and his record in social policy is very poor. He only jumped in the van wagon of ALBA in the last few months so he could be re-elected. He only had 7 months to go, despite the Supreme Court’s warning that it was illegal “any attempt of re-election”. Funny hearing Raul Castro calling for “a US intervention in Honduras” (sic). Zelaya himself has said that the US was “very strong in its condemnation against the coup”.
