Palestine Photo Essay II

Barrier built in the al-Ibrahimi Mosque (burial place of Abraham) after a Zionist settler from NYC shot and killed 30 Palestinian Muslims in the Mosque. The Israeli IDF then closed the mosque for a month (for “security reasons,” of course) and when they reopened it to the Palestinian Muslims, the Israelis had converted half of into a Synagogue.

Main street in Hebron–closed down by the Israeli IDF, which sent thousands of Palestinian stores out of business.

Some beautiful Palestinian kids. Their youngest brother was killed by the Israeli military.

In Hebron. The building in the background (on the hill) was a 150 yr old Palestinian school that was seized by the radical Israeli settlers and turned into a radical right wing Jewish Zionist seminary.

Fencing that the Palestinians put above their market to keep the Israeli settlers from throwing bottles, rocks, and trash onto them.

Ramallah city square.

This is the entrance to the home of a Palestinian who refused to move from his home when the State of Israel seized his farm land for an Zionist settlement (illegal by international law, btw). He still lives there surrounded by hostile Zionist settlers.

Children playing in the Old City of Jerusalem. The Dome of the Rock is in the background.

Part of the Wall dividing Palestinians from Palestinians. Notice how the left side is nicer….that is because it faces an Americans house. 80% of “The Wall” divides Palestinians from Palestinians; NOT Palestinians from Israelis. This is because “The Wall” isnt about security for the Israelis; rather, it is about colonization of the West Bank–It is about creating an Apartheid State.

Another Palestinian city cut in half by “the Wall.” Cuts right down one of the main roads. Tell me how this is protecting the Israelis?

The kids from this half of the city used to go to school on the other side of the city. Now it takes them two hours to get to school. They even tried going through these sewage pipes you see at the bottom of this picture, but the Israelis closed them off with grates.

This is a gate in “The Wall” that is sometimes open and sometimes closed. You never know what it will be–open or closed. Some days you get to work or school in an hour, other days it takes three.

Two Palestinian boys from the family in Nablus who invited us in for lunch.

Family in Nablus who invited us in and fed us lunch, coffee and desserts afterward. They are holding up the photos of two of their sons who were killed by the Israeli IDF–one was mentally handicapped and he was used by the Israeli IDF as a human shield. You can also see (in the background) where their wall has been patched–this is because the Israeli army doesn’t walk on the streets, instead, they go through the city by busting through house walls into other houses. This, they argue, is safer for them.
Thank you, Matt for educating us all – your personal account brings the truth to light for those of us who were not able to make the trip with you. May love always guide your path. Peace, Mary
There is simply no way the Palestinians will get their land back. It is fighting a monster armed to the teeth and extremely hostile to neighbours around. how they were created in the first place is absolutely beyond me.
