The Lethal Dove and Cartographic Perfidy

June 19th, 2010 § 10 Comments

This cartoon by Jeff Darcy appeared in the Cleveland Plain Dealer on June 3. This was clearly a breakthrough. The ADL and CAMERA immediately unleashed the Israel Lobby’s flak machine; they wouldn’t tolerate such favourable representation of what the American Jewish Committee calls ‘The Terror Flotilla‘. It did not take long for the editors to cave and issue a grovelling apology. It is now time for you to register your opinion.

In related news the Israel Lobby has successfully fought off the threat of East Jerusalem being portrayed on millions of iPhone weather applications as an Occupied Territory. Under pressure from the Israeli ambassador Michael Oren and the Israel lobby group American Israeli Action Coalition, Apple and Yahoo quickly restored all of Jerusalem cartographically to Israeli control.

Jeff Darcy’s cartoon re the Israeli Defense Force and Gaza was excellent. I can not believe you apologized for it, if what I heard is true. Did the ADL and AIPAC make you lose your courage?

Jeff Carcy’s cartoon re the Israeli Defense force and Gaza was excellent. Why did you buckle under the ADL and others and apologize?

This is why I won’t be sad when print media goes under. The Plain Dealer, as a historic newspaper, could stake out the truth, and offer an alternative. Instead you grovel in front of the most disgusting and manipulative lobby of all time, and apologize to them! Plain Dealer, you’re not on the side of free inquiry, and free exchange of opinion. When I hear of you going broke, I will feel good for at least a week. To hell with you. You bring shame to every decent journalist that ever lived with your canned news and opinions.

Did it ever occur to you that the organized Jewish community might actually be wrong about something? Aren’t they human? Don’t human beings make mistakes? Why are they the only group in the world that everybody has to agree with????? By apologizing to these cultural vigilantes and religious nationalists as you did, you do your little bit to make the extremists in the Jewish community stronger. Nice going, guys. You just made the world a little uglier.

Bravo for the wonderful cartoonist. I hope he finds work elsewhere, because he speaks for many who recognize oppression when they see it. Damn your eyes, Plain Dealer, I will wait for the day that you go broke. In the meanwhile, support Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israeli apartheid–it’s non-violent and it’s effective.

In the meantime, let all the Palestinians know that every time the racist Jewish settlers in the West Bank harass them, or a Palestinian is picked up and detained along with 12,000 others and never charged with anything, tell them to smile and bow and grovel for the camera, because if they don’t smile the Plain Dealer will be sure to discover that they’re crypto-Nazis and secret anti-Semites, and then everybody will have to once again apologize to the nearest right-wing Zionist Gautliter!

  • Mary Hughes-Thompson says:

How pathetic that your newspaper felt it necessary to suck up to Zionist pressure. What happened to Free Speech in America? Or are you saying there is Free Speech unless it offends a zionist? You should be ashamed, and the artist who created this work should be applauded for his honesty where apparently dishonesty is the rule.

  • Chuck Abdelnour,City Clerk Emeritus says:

By God you have distorted the truth and as a free paper caved in to terrioism by the Jewish group of Zionist-You should confront the truth and accept the facts on the ground-Palestines people and land oppressed people and stolen land from them-please there is time and what a cartoon-Pultizer Prize nomination-cowards-

  • Holger Terp says:

    This is a good cartoon.
It remind me of John Heartfield’s peace dove pierced on a bayonet at the outbreak of World War II.
    Keep on the good work
