Hedgebrook Interview with Suheir Hammad

July 23rd, 2010 § Leave a Comment

In 2009 I attended a reading in Seattle, Washington hosted by the wonderful Hedgebrook, an American non-profit dedicated to supporting female writers by providing residencies and other forms of support. The event featured some of Hedgebrook’s best alumnae, including the brilliant Palestinian-American poet, Suheir Hammad.

In this interview filmed at the Hedgebrook retreat (where Hammad got her first taste of life outside Brooklyn as a young and struggling writer) Hammad answers five questions about herself and her work. She has since published Breaking Poems, winner of the 30th annual Before Columbus Foundation/AMERICAN BOOK AWARDS for 2009, and is currently working on a book of prose.
