What’s the Matter with America?

In a country where the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic “I Have A Dream” speech is overshadowed by a rally led by two of the most backward and reactionary figures in the US mainstream (Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin), more questions need to be asked about the origins and implications of the extremist right-wing sentiment that is currently manifesting itself in the form of thinly veiled hate rallies and targeted acts of Islamophobic violence in the US.
In the acclaimed documentary, What’s the Matter with Kansas, the rise of US conservative populism is examined through the recent history of creator Thomas Frank’s home state of Kansas. Once known for its progressive politics, Kansas is now a Republican stronghold. Considering recent events organized by various factions of the US right-wing today, this brilliantly crafted film is now more relevant than ever.
Harvard University professor Stephen M. Walt wrote earlier this month that he hears “echoes of the Weimar experience” when he watches videos like this one and reads the “xenophobic bile spewed by hate-mongers like Islamophobe Pam Geller.” If the Left and progressive movements don’t work harder to counter the fascistic fervor that is currently spreading through the US, ordinary people will continue to turn to people like Beck for guidance, and there is nothing more worrying than direction he is trying to lead them in…

Just what would be the reaction of ADL and Ben Obama if someone had put anti-Jewish Bus ads.

It’s 1939 again. The Muslims are our Jews, and the Zionists are our Nazis. Every American sincere about justice and liberty must take a stand.
But I would never stand with the Dems. They are as conservative as the Republicans and every bit as beholden to the Zionists and corporate interests. We need a genuine third party, populist movement that cuts across the bogus and engineered divisions of race, religion and party affiliation the ruling elite have use to divide us against each other.
