Glenn Greenwald Schools Fran Townsend on CNN
December 28th, 2010 § 3 Comments
Former homeland security advisor to George W. Bush turned CNN contributer Fran Townsend debatesĀ Glenn Greenwald (who also ended up debating host Jessica Yellin) about WikiLeaks and Julian Assange. What ensued was a Greenwald-led lesson on US law and journalism for Townsend (a former attorney) and reporter Yellin.

You have to grudgingly give credit to CNN for broadcasting this brilliant discussion with Glen Greenwald together with the ludicrous intervention from Fran Townsend. I loved Glen’s throwaway line “Good investigative journalists – maybe CNN doesn’t do it – but good investagitive journalists work their sources all the time …”
Yellin was a cheerleader for the war in Iraq, as was Wolf Blitzer at CNN who spent five years at AIPAC. Now CNN, Blitzer, Glen Beck, et al are cheerleaders for bombing Iran in order to further destabilize the Mideast to allow Israel to continue ethnic cleansing in Palestine.
No wonder the media is nervous about Wikileaks, they are losing control of the dialogue.
I am continually amazed at the chalk-and-Friday difference between the political cheerleading of CNN in the US vs. CNN International. Maybe I just haven’t been watching the right shows, maybe the Hong Kong centre just has better anchors and reporters, or maybe CNN-I recognises that the Free World just won’t tolerate anything approaching the same level of hasbara-based propaganda that too many Americans lap up every day.
